The 45th President and a Turkish copycat

During the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, Donald Trump attacked Federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel who was presiding over civil fraud lawsuits against Trump University. Trump said that his Mexican heritage which would present an ‘Absolute Conflict’ in Trump's view (eg, CNN, WSJ).

The 45th President is now attacking another Federal Judge and telling his Twitter followers they should “blame” this judge and the American court system for suspending his ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries in case of a hypothetical terror attack (eg, Guardian).

Again, these events make clear that the 45th President of Executive Orders does not feel accountable for his actions. Anyone who defies him, will feel his rage. Since late January, American news media have been speculating whether the USA is in - or heading towards - a constitutional crisis (eg, CNN, HP, NY, PoliticoWP, ZH).

Trump's continued attack on judges and Trump's advice to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to "go nuclear" on the Democratic opposition, reminds me of the situation in Turkey following the 2016 Turkish coup d'etat attempt (eg, Economist 2014, Reuters pre-coupRFERLWPZH).

ZH: "[] pro-Erdogan, state-run Anadolu Agency said a top body overseeing judges and prosecutors has dismissed 2,745 judges across the country. Anadolu Agency says the emergency meeting of the Judges and Prosecutors High Council was held Saturday, mere hours after Turkish forces quashed an attempted coup, and promptly purged the slate clean of anyone in the judicial branch who was seen as even remotely opposed to Erdogan.

Trump's attacks on the judiciary seem to be a calculated risk: if the judges get scared of him then he wins, if the judges oppose to Trump then he will play his (in)famous victim role and will also win. Similar to Turkey, Trump may sign an Executive Order to reorganize the U.S. court system. Before the U.S. Congress can vote on Trump's proposal, he will declare Martial Law following a serious "incident". It feels like watching Netflix's Designated Survivor (IMDb).

Clearly, the above would fit the 2013 statement by Trump's Chief Strategist Steve Bannon to Ronald Radosh of The Daily Beast. See my blog The 45th President and Indiana Jones

At some point in time, the GOP needs to make up its mind about Trump's impeachment. There is no future GOP in Trump Land. There are only Yes Man in Trump Land, and certainly no independent judges.

Bannon: "I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today's establishment."
